Xbox Series X and S Gets an FPS Boost Mode That Doubles Frame Rates in Games
Significantly increasing performance for backwards compatible games.
Shortly after teasing a new range of features for the Xbox Series X and S revolving around backwards compatible titles, Microsoft has now introduced an FPS Boost mode for the next-gen consoles that can effectively double the frame rate of certain games.
The feature was designed to increase frame rates significantly without any effort on the games’ developer side, and right now it’s available for a small selection of titles including Watch Dogs 2, Sniper Elite 4, Far Cry 4, UFC 4, and New Super Lucky’s Tale. Most games will see its FPS double, while in some exceptional cases Microsoft even observed an incredible quadrupling of frame rates. To access the feature, games that support it will have a special indicator when you hit the Xbox button on your controller.
“This is just the beginning,” explains Xbox’s senior program manager Paul Eng. “We will announce and release more titles featuring FPS Boost soon, as we roll out new menu icons and system settings in an upcoming system update.”
