LG's 88-Inch 8K OLED TV Is Dropping for $34K
South Korean electronics powerhouse company LG is gearing up for the release of its 8K OLED TV this week.
Unveiled during the CES trade show held in Las Vegas back in January, the 88-inch 88Z9 boasts 8K Ultra HD resolution picture quality (7680 x 4320) utilizing over 33 million self-emitting pixels; that’s four times more pixels than 4K and 16 times the number in full HD. LG has also stated the 88Z9 will use deep learning to generate virtual 5.1 surround sound with support for Dolby Atmos which has been made possible by the company’s second-generation α (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 8K intelligent processor. Additionally, built-in versions of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa will be made available in some markets.
Marking the world’s first 8K OLED TV screen, the device is now available for pre-order in South Korea for ₩40 million won (approximately $34,000 USD). The set will then go on sale in North America and Europe in the third quarter of this year for ₩50 million won (approximately $42,000 USD). As an added bonus, pre-order sales will come with a free air purifier. Head over to LG’s site for more details.
During CES, LG also debuted the world’s first rollable 4K OLED TV set to release by the end of 2019.
