Attack on Titan Final Chapter Coming April 9, 2021

Attack on Titan, Shingeki no Kyojin, the popular manga by Hajime Isayama, will be ending on April 9 in the May 2021 issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine.

On January 5, Shonen Magazine published a new commercial for Attack on Titan, announcing the manga by Hajime Isayama will be ending on April 9, 2021. The Attack on Titan final chapter itself will be published in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine May 2021 issue, out on April 9. The final Attack on Titan volume, volume 34, will be released on June 9, 2021 in Japan. Moreover, Hajime Isayama shared, for the occasion, some comments regarding the series reaching its conclusion.

In a press release, Hajime Isayama explained Attack on Titan was never stretched out by his editor(s). He kept going because he wanted to, and he’s ending the story out of his own will.

Hajime Isayama: “I’ve been saying for eight years that this will be over in three years. It seems I’ll finally be able to finish it now. It’s been a very long time, and I hope you will keep reading until the ending. I was never ever told by my editorial department to stretch out the series. Rather, these last years, they kept asking me “When are you ending it”. I’m sorry, it’s finally over now. I will do my best so readers will be happy they kept following the series till its end.”

Attack on Titan – ending chapter and final volume announcement

Attack on Titan volume 33 will be out on January 8, 2021, in Japan. The February issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, releasing on January 9, also features Attack on Titan on its cover. Both the volume and the magazine include original can badges. Volume 33 has a Levi can badge, the magazine has Jean Kirstein and Reiner Braun can badges.

“This manga was supposed to end, but was prolonged by the editorial department since it’s popular, so that’s why it sucks now” is one of the most spread type of rumors in the manga industry. It does have some truth to it too. As such, it’s newsworthy and interesting to see Isayama directly bring it up like this. That rumor is also a very easy to believe-in justification when one of your favorite mangaka starts making very questionable story choices. That way, you can easily fool yourself and avoid seeing the truth of how that author can make mistakes too. At least that’s what happened with me, and a certain manga I feel like Bleaching out of my brain past a certain arc comes to mind.

Attack on Titan, known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japan, started in September 2009. The series is ending after 11 years.

The first anime adaptation in 2013 made Isayama’s work popular worldwide. The anime also made a whole new generation of anime fans discover musical group Sound Horizon and its leader Revo. The first AoT anime OP was heavily parodied as well. Attack on Titan The Final Season is currently airing since December 7, 2020.

Last but not least, as you probably already know, one of the inspirations for Attack on Titan was Muv-Luv . When Muv-Luv‘s developer âge celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019. Hajime Isayama shared some comments on the matter. He most notably mentioned he finished Muv-Luv Alternative in two days and to this day it’s still the game he was engrossed in the most, ever. Isayama also jokingly mentioned he wanted to make Attack on Titan just as intricate as Muv-Luv, but couldn’t, and gave up.
