Apple Watch Series 4 Debuts With a Number of New Health Features

During Apple‘s Gather Round Event, the company unveiled the next installment of the Apple Watch series, showcasing a larger display and new features beneficial to your health.

Starting with a dual core 64-bit S4 processor, the Apple Watch Series 4 will run twice as fast as its predecessors. Other hardware changes include an updated accelerometer and gyroscope, as well as improved speakers and microphones. The Apple team also confirms that it’ll continue to deliver 18-hours of battery life.

Display-wise, it will feature a 30% larger screen than its previous models; it’s thinner, curved and nearly edge-to-edge. The UI has been redesigned to show more information on its face and can be customized to feature any app you choose, in addition to new interactive graphics.

Regarding it’s health features, the Apple Watch Series 4 can detect when you fall based on recognized motions, and if you’re immobile for over a minute, it will call emergency services for you. It will also notify you of low heart rates, an irregular rhythm, and can allow users to take an ECG at anytime using an app and placing your finger on its digital crown with haptics technology. Maybe most importantly, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the Watch 4 as a proper medical device.

Available in space gray, silver, as well as gold aluminum and stainless gold color option, the Apple Watch Series 4 will retail for $399 USD and $499 with cellular service. Pre-order begins September 14, with availability starting September 21.
