Lucasfilm Announces New 'Star Wars Resistance' Animated Series
Lucasfilm has announced its next animated series, following the finale of Star Wars Rebels, and it’s set in the era of The Force Awakens. Called Star Wars Resistance, the series will see Rebels and Clone Wars producer Dave Filoni return for the show, which has been described as an “anime-inspired” series set in an “uncharted time frame prior to The Force Awakens.”
The story will follow a young pilot recruited by the Resistance named Kazuda Xiono, who will embark on a secret surveillance mission of the First Order. Kazuda will be joined by other pilots alongside familiar characters like BB-8, Captain Phasma and Poe Dameron, who will be reprized by Gwendoline Christie and Oscar Isaac, respectively.
According to Filoni, the series will focus on space battles and the fighter pilot life:
The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.
Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence and Donald Faison are a few names who will round out the rest of the cast. Expect Star Wars Resistance to premiere on the Disney Channel this fall before landing on Disney XD later on. Stay tuned as more details unfold.
