First Look at 'StarCraft' Official Cartoon Skin Pack from Blizzard

Video game developer Blizzard has worked with Carbot Animations — a YouTube channel making several animated series based on different Blizzard titles — to produce an official skin mod for one the most popular real-time strategy games in history: StarCraft.

The mod itself features fully revamped cartoon skins for all the units, as well as maps and even the user interface. The new graphics are heavily based on Carbot Animations’ StarCrafts, a popular YouTube animated series inspired by Blizzard’s sci-fi RTS game. As an official mod and not just a fan project, the skins apply to the entire game: from ladder matches to campaign mode and even mission briefings.

The announcement originally came a few weeks back in South Korea, where the game is still hugely popular with regular tournaments and entire TV channels dedicated to the eSport. However, not many caught wind of it in the West, so Carbot Animations has re-announced it in a gameplay video they recently published. The video — linked above — starts with some announcements about the channel and then moves straight into the unveiling of the collaboration with Blizzard, featuring both gameplay videos with the skins and edited cinematic shots with the new character styles. He also explains why they chose to make the mod for the original StarCraft and not StarCraft II.

The Carbot Animations cartoon mod for Blizzard’s StarCraft will be available July 10.
